FIVE ON FRIDAY - LIBRARY OF BABEL VII

As ever, big shout out shout-out to Froth's Humpday Blog-o-rama and Dragons Never Forget's Great Blog Roll Call. Check them out if you want a more thorough example of what constitutes the vast osr blog-o-sphere.
Continuing the themed pictures, today is the day of St Nicholas.
St Nicholas was a 4th Century Greek Magic-User, pictured here with his spellbook.

Happy December, everyone... here's your weekly helping of steaming hot old school blog highlights:

FALSE MACHINE
THE EIGHT WORGHAST LAWS
https://falsemachine.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-eight-worghast-laws.html?showComment=1575341308632#c5194851170457811291

Patrick Stuart here lays out eight laws of the worghast, a construct sitting somewhere between golem (an unthinking extension of its creator) and a robot (an intelligent, ruthless, anti-human self-replicator). Comparisons to Asimov's Laws of Robotics are inevitable, though these are a quite different concern.
Unlike Asimov, Patrick is writing in an era where AI is not a theoretical concept, and the discourse concerning the existential threat posed by AI  is becoming increasingly mainstream: what PS represents is the sophisticated, 21st Century parocosmologist 's approach to the existential threat of AI, through the prismk of their post-post apocalyptic fantasy world.

ELF MAIDS AND OCTOPI
STONE AGE ADVENTURES

Fuck me, another stone age motherfucker. I should probably just quietly mine this for  my upcoming palaentological game instead of fretting about it. Also, it's not like I was the first to have this idea, Cavegirl even earned her name as a consequence of publishing an ice age OSR RPG.
(That said, I do want everyone to know that in 2012 I ran a horrible HORRIBLE 3.5e neolithic campaign that even had its own horrible wiki. Have a look! https://empala.fandom.com/wiki/The_World_of_Empala_Wiki )
As is often the case with this blog, the content is thorough and of a high calibre. The approach here is to imagine all the "core" (i.e. vanilla) fantasy races in a stone age context, which itself exists within the shadow of a fallen monster empire.

WORDS FOR YELLOW
BLOG UPDATE

This post by Evelyn is to highlight the addition of some new generators to the site, including backstory, weapon and potion generators. Here's an example: if you enjoy it, have a look...
There is a membranous bulb containing half a liter of potion. It looks violet, and when consumed has a salty taste, feeling gritty upon the palate. It causes temporary eyes to develop on your body which bestows long-lasting glow. How delightful!
CHAOS MAGICK-USER
1D10 THINGS THAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU INHALE THE ASHES OF THE OUTER GOD YOU JUST KILLED
https://magickuser.wordpress.com/2019/12/04/1d10-things-that-happen-when-you-inhale-the-ashes-of-the-outer-god-you-just-killed/

Just such a delicious title for a post. Especially when you consider its provenance...
GM: So you have the ashes of the Outer God. What do you want-
PLAYER: I snort them.
GM: You what?
PLAYER: I snort the ashes of the outer God we just killed. I roll up a page from that motherfuking tome of vile darkness and stick up my nostril and huff these ashes. What happens?
Fucking players, man. I love them.

OF SLUGS AND SILVER
THE MANDALORIAN, 7 SAMURAI, AND GAMING AS PIZZA
https://slugsandsilver.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-mandalorian-7-samurai-and-gaming-as.html?showComment=1575439193494#c7811276875780232452

Nothing to do with Samurai Pizza Cats.
I haven't yet seen the mandalorian, though it apparently draws a great deal from the Seventh Samurai by way of the Magnificent Seven. Ancalagon here outlines how that scenario can be utilised to create several enjoyable sessions of tabletop play:
If you get most of these ingredients right, you can have a few very good sessions with this scenario.  It won't be the most original, but everyone loves pizza.
 Until next time.
