You can find more information about this is series of games in this series of posts, but in a nutshell I was inspired by Luke Gearing's and Pat Eyler's respective one-hour megadungeon sessions to run a weekly PARIAH sandbox during my Friday lunch break.
Just wanted to add a small note to say:
- I'm having issues with this blog's formatting: I'm aware of display issues, will hopefully get to sort it out this weekend
- This post is mostly a note for current and future players in the campaign.
This is the fifth play report, with the game taking place on 29th March. Next game is scheduled for 3rd May, though we haven't been able to make quorum in the last few sessions.
Turn 1
Nimble Goat & Wandering Jackal catch up with Cunning Fortune, who has been stocking up on conical hats and mummified cats while avoiding weird lion creatures and ghost children. They spy a leopard lurking languidly in a tree. The pariahs notice that the trees seem to be blossoming now, when previously (an hour or so ago) they were just beginning to bud.
Turn 2
Exploring the different way into one of the walled gardens, they notice that the small (6") channel on the ground is filling with a steady trickle of water. A pterosaur flies overhead, at considerable height.
Turn 3
They find an easy way into the garden, spying an incredibly lifelike statue of a human (male? I can't remember) in white marble. It is throwing a discus. It's position changes when not looked at.
Turn 4
Tentatively, they creep into the garden. A cat (tabby?) follows them in. They notice that the statue only moves when they're not looking at it, so Nimble Goat keeps her gaze fixed on it while Wandering Jackal and Cunning Fortune look for fruit on the "orchard" floor (finding none, the trees just look like they should have fruit, it's not clear what fruit that might be!).
Turn 5
The cat distracts Nimble Goat for long enough for the statue to advance towards her at speed. The pariahs assume defensive stances but aren't quick enough to evade it's strike. the fully animated statue strikes Nimble Goat, knocking her prone (maybe even cacking a rib?) Cunning fortune invokes her spell-spirit, which assumes the form of entangling roots. Emerging rapidly from the ground they provide the pariahs with enough time to make their retreat, pulling Nimble Goat to safety and piling through the wooden hatch that led them in.
The statue does not pursue them, though the cat follows them through, apparently just as terrified of the abominable marble-man as the exiles are.
Turn 6
Cunning Fortune applies some healing knowledge and concludes that Nimble Goat is bruised and winded but it's nothing a good meal and a rest won't sort out. They consider exploring further but instead think maybe it's a good chance to regroup and take stock. They meet with the other pariahs back at the garden Cunning Fortune explored earlier.
It is mid afternoon.
